Provincial Coaching Staff

Karate Alberta Senior Provincial Team 2021

Karate Alberta has created three separate programs that will run independent of one another in the coming season. The programs are:

  • Senior Team 2021 program selections/preparation of athletes – current application
  • Canada Games 2023 program – to be released by end of July 2021
  • Provincial team for 2022 Karate Canada Nationals – to be released by end of July 2021

Coaching staff – Senior provincial Team 2021

The Coaching staff for Karate Alberta will be responsible for the planning and execution of athlete trainings, provincial team preparation, and coaching support at KC National 2021 Tournament. The coaches will embody True Sport principles, be inclusive, ethical and competent in the performance of their duties.

Requirements

All coaches will be required to provide an up-to-date Criminal Records Check (no older than 3 years).

Coaches will need to complete:

  • Safe Sport Training
  • Respect in Sport
  • Disclosure form

Core Competencies

  • NCCP training/certification
  • Experience coaching at Provincial, National, International level
  • Experience as a HP athlete
  • Demonstrate good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Demonstrate good organizational and administrative skills
  • Knowledge/experience in the development and implementation of annual training plans, strength and conditioning, competition plans, nutritional and mental performance plans
  • Strong communications and leadership skills to ensure continual performance and progression of the athletes
  • Continual exchange of knowledge and ideas with other coaches
  • Demonstrates ethical leadership qualities and works to install the virtues of fair play and sportsmanship in athletes and coaches

Hiring of Coaches

Senior Provincial Team 2021 Program

Selections/Preparation of athletes

Time frame: July 15 – Sept 30, 2021

Event Coaches

  • Program Head Coaches– min NCCP Comp Intro Certified and/or Comp Dev Trained with 3+ modules
    • 1-Kata, 1-Para, 1-Kumite Program Head Coaches
  • Assistant Coaches– min NCCP Comp Intro Trained
    • Assistant coaches will be hired to fill to 1:8 coach: athlete ratio/discipline, respecting Rule of Two. Additional Coaches maybe hired if athlete numbers increase.
  • Karate Alberta will hire coaches and position them to abide by KC Coaching requirements for Nationals.

 

Mandate: to identify and prepare all age eligible athletes from across AB for Sept 2021 event (kata, kumite, para). Organize & Host selection event (only if needed) for divisions where there are more athletes than spots available for competition. Focus is to be on preparation for competition. Team Roster must be submitted for Board Approval prior to publication.

3 – 3hr training sessions, create 3-month training plan, attend Senior Team selections Event (Calgary)

Term of Coaches

July 15, 2021 – October 5, 2021

Coaches will report to BoD Hiring Committee

Expectations – at KC Senior Nationals 2021

Coaches will be expected to:

  • Hold Team Meetings
  • Complete team and individual briefings & debriefings
  • Hold team training sessions at event
  • Attend Team meals
  • Coach at tournament
  • Wear Team attire while representing KA

Honoraria for COACHES

  • Comp Dev Certified Program Head Coaches
    • 3 x 3hr Technical Training – $100 + approved expenses
    • Sept 2021 Tournament Event coaching $250 + approved expenses
    • 3hr @ $20 for planning
  • Comp Intro Certified and/or Comp Dev Trained with 3+ modules Program Head Coaches
    • 3 x 3hr Technical Training – $75 + approved expenses
    • Sept 2021 Tournament Event coaching $250 + approved expenses
    • 3hr @ $20 for planning
  • Comp Dev Certified Assistant Coaches
    • 3 x 3hr Technical Training – $75 + approved expenses
    • Sept 2021 Tournament Event coaching $150 + approved expenses
  • Comp Intro Certified Assistant Coaches
    • 3 x 3hr Technical Training – $50 + approved expenses
    • Sept 2021 Tournament Event coaching $100 + approved expenses
  • Comp Intro Trained Assistant Coaches
    • Volunteer position with high-fives!
