Coaches Pathway

Pathway to Becoming a Karate Alberta Coach

Coaching Karate is different from a dojo Sensei teaching Karate. Coaching the team is about providing information for developing athletic abilities, technical and tactical skills in the training camps. The coach will also coach in a competitive environment to assist athletes to perform to their potential.

Developmental Coach

  • Complete NCCP Instructor Beginner Course
  • Attend Athlete/Coach Developmental Camp
  • Submit Application to KA Coaching Committee
  • Complete First Aid course from a recognized first aid training organization in Canada, renewed every 3 years
  • Complete Police information Check (“PIC”) with Vulnerable Sector Check (“VSC”) as per KA’s specifications, and KA disclosure form

Assistant Coach

  • Complete NCCP Competition Intro Course
  • Experience as a Developmental Coach
  • Attend Athlete/Coach Developmental Camp
  • Submit Application to KA Coaching Committee
  • Complete First Aid course from a recognized first aid training organization in Canada, renewed every 3 years
  • Complete Police information Check (“PIC”) with Vulnerable Sector Check (“VSC”) as per KA’s specifications, and KA disclosure form

Head Coach

  • Complete NCCP Comp Dev Course
  • Experience as an Assistant Coach
  • Submit Application to KA Board of Directors
  • Complete First Aid course from a recognized first aid training organization in Canada, renewed every 3 years
  • Complete Police information Check (“PIC”) with Vulnerable Sector Check (“VSC”) as per KA’s specifications, and KA disclosure form

Technical Director

  • Complete NCCP Comp Dev Course
  • Experience as a Provincial Head Coach
  • Submit Application to KA Board of Directors
  • Complete First Aid course from a recognized first aid training organization in Canada, renewed every 3 years
  • Complete Police information Check (“PIC”) with Vulnerable Sector Check (“VSC”) as per KA’s specifications, and KA disclosure form
Annually:
  • Coaching Committee will establish criteria for Prospects to become KA Provincial Team Members to attend KC Nationals
  • Criteria will include:
    • Results at KA Tournaments
    • Attendance and participation in Team Trainings
    • Appropriate behaviour and adherence to rules and conduct
    • Continual training and improvement from training to training
    • Fulfillment of volunteer requirements
    • Good standing with KA
